What you can do to make working on printable worksheets more enjoyable for your child may often depend on the age and interests of the child. For example, older children may have to read a poem which is on the sheet and then write their own poem in the same sort of style. If they have been used to playing word games while growing up this should not be a problem, you just have to find a way of making the doing of it attractive. One thing that they might enjoy is if you put on a favourite cd and get them to see if they can use some of the main phrases from that in a different way, i.e. in the style of the poem. Depending on your child has age and concentration span there are plenty of fun ways to get them working on printable worksheets.

With the new school year starting soon, many parents will be concerned about school readiness and looking for ways to help their children prepare for big school. While there are many preschool worksheets available, some are more useful than others in terms of versatility. There is a lot more to school readiness that just knowing the alphabet and counting to ten. Academically, parents can use preschool worksheets to help teach their children some of the basic skills they will need for kindergarten and school. This will include counting to ten, recognizing shapes and colors, being able to hold a pencil or crayon properly, and coloring in without scribbling. It is essential that math basic skills be mastered early on, as these skills build the foundation for understanding harder concepts introduced in higher grades. First grade math contains quite a few important skills, and using online games may be able to give students the help they need in order to become fluent in working with numbers. In kindergarten, kids learn simple math skills like number recognition and counting. They are able to begin to recognize that higher numbers are bigger numbers and can understand concepts like counting by twos and tens. Using online games with these children when they reach first grade can help them transition between beginning math skills and more complex numerical concepts. Providing a wide variety of different games in an entertaining online environment gets kids excited about tackling new ideas and puts math in a positive context. Once the foundation has been laid for basic comprehension and computational skills, children can use these games to progress even further.

You can also try and teach division just like you would teach the multiplication tables, through division worksheets. By teaching 5 times 2 is 10 and 5 times 3 is 15 you can reverse it and let your students learn by saying things like 10 divided by 5 is 2 and 15 divided by 5 is 3. Of course, this is not applicable to much large numbers when it comes to learning to divide by larger numbers, but it is a good start.

Letter Books: These are books that frequently use the same phonemes over and over so students can understand them (the link between a letter and the sound it makes). For instance, "Baby bear bounced balls". These books are really good, especially if you have the book as a colouring book that you can fill out together. Here is a good activity: say the sound like "b says...buh buh, ball" and then students race to colour in their balls in their workbook. You can hang these up after and everyone will have fun.

For example, once your child starts kindergarten, they will be expected to sit still and complete tasks for about 15 to 20 minutes at a time. If your child is used to doing a worksheet or two, they will be able to do this quite easily, and will understand that they need to complete the task before they can move on to the next activity. Worksheets also help your child to learn how to follow instructions, and teach them about following rules.

There are better materials out there, so do not resort to skill and drill. The very worst problem of skill and drill worksheets is the greatly increased chance of a practiced mistake. The same problem will likely appear several times on the same sheet. A wrong answer once means a wrong answer several times; and a practiced mistake takes hundreds of correct repetitions to fix. This danger alone is important enough to never use any worksheet. I am quite serious about how difficult it is to repair a practiced mistake. Learning is hard enough. Re-learning is much more difficult.
